Susanna wins Society of Midland Authors Prize

Entering the House of Awe was selected to win this year’s prize in poetry from the Society of Midland Authors. The award has a great history of some distinguished authors, including personal favorites like Gwendolyn Brooks, Ronald Wallace, and Hope College’s own Jack Ridl. We’re very excited!

Hope versus Calvin? Some people believe you need to decide which, but you won’t have to take sides for Susanna’s sake this week since she is presenting at both schools–a busy week for a woman in her 31st week of pregnancy.

In Texas This Week

Susanna will be in TX this week featured in the Windhover Writers Festival Thursday, at the University of Mary HardinBaylor in Belton, the 9th through Saturday morning the 11t.

She will also be sneaking over to Austin to do a reading at BookWoman Friday night with friend and fellow poet, Carrie Fountain.

Great thanks to Joseph Byrd for letting us use his cozy black box theater Dec 2 for Susanna’s book release. Every one of the roughly 75 seats was filled with students, friends and good people from the community for her reading. Special thanks to Jacob Bullard, Angelee Garcia, Jordan Walters and Charlie Walter for reading and to Larry Figueroa and Michael Reynolds for performing their original jazz compositions. The evening was magical, everything I wanted it to be to celebrate Susanna and her accomplishment with Entering the House of Awe.
